Enterprise Estonia supports the development of Cell Treatment and Furniture Industry Clusters

Enterprise Estonia decided to support the development of Cell Treatment and Furniture Industry Clusters, which operate as cooperation projects between scientific institutions and economic operators. Together with these, the number of full clusters that Enterprise Estonia is supporting has already reached 13. The program for the development of clusters is funded from the instruments of the European Regional Development Fund.

Cell therapy or cell treatment is a sub-domain of regenerative and aesthetic medicine. The treatment is based on the idea of replacing tissue, which was destroyed during the case of cell use, and accelerating the regenerative process by transferring healthy cells to a sick organ.

Estonia addresses German cultural tourists with Pärt and Järvi

This week, a three-week tourism campaign was launched inviting Germans to enjoy a cultural holiday in Estonia. The campaign focuses on the residents of the Land of North Rhine-Westphalia and its larger cities of Düsseldorf and Cologne. Enterprise Estonia is financing the campaign from the funds of the European Regional Development Fund.

The campaign is targeted at educated, higher-income Germans over the age of 45, interested in history and culture, whose attention is drawn by the Estonian culture personas familiar to the German cultural scene, e.g. composer Arvo Pärt, conductor Paavo Järvi, designer Liina Viira, but also the Estonian-origin conductor Kristiina Poska, residing in Germany, and the renowned German actor Edgar Selge, starring in The Poll Diaries.

Estonia invites Norwegians to a cultural holiday

Today, a four-week cultural tourism campaign was launched in Norway, in the region of Oslo and Trondheim, during which Enterprise Estonia invites the often-travelling Norwegian pre-pensioners to spend their holidays in Estonia during the low season. Enterprise Estonia is financing the campaign from the funds of the European Regional Development Fund.

During the first nine months of this year, 25% more Norwegians were accommodated in Estonia than during the same period last year; the number of nights spent in Estonia increased by 17% compared to the same period last year.

Click & Grow, If and ZeroTurnaround compete in Innovator 2011 finale

Click & Grow, If and ZeroTurnaround are the finalists in the competition Innovator 2011, with the winner being declared tomorrow, 14 September, in the finale of the Entrepreneurship Award 2011. The festive gala will be broadcast to the general public via TV3 at 22.15. The competition and the Entrepreneurship Award Gala are being financed with funds from the European Social Fund.

"This year, the competition was pleasantly intense," said Ilmar Pralla, Director of the Innovation Division of Enterprise Estonia. "It is a pleasure to admit that the economic crisis had a positive influence on entrepreneurs: there are many enterprises that have emerged on the market with shining ideas, effective business plans and high export potential," added Pralla.

The interest of apartment buildings in energy audit has increased

In comparison to last year, within the first six months of this year apartment buildings have more actively applied for the grant from KredEx for drafting energy audits. If last year the total number of grants for drafting of energy audits was 429, within the first six months of this year already 336 apartment buildings have been supported. Also interest in building expert evaluation and building design grants issued by KredEx has increased.
 
“In last months it can be seen that apartment associations pay more attention to energy saving and reconstruction of buildings. An increase in the price of electricity and the extraordinarily cold winter have definitely had an influence,” said Mirja Adler, head of the Housing Division of KredEx.

The world will discuss development of creative economy policies in Tallinn

On 19-21 October, in Estonia, Enterprise Estonia will organise the largest creative economy event of the year - the international conference Creative Entrepreneurship for a Competitive Economy. The conference will commence a discussion on how the creative economy is actually understood and supported. The conference is financed by Enterprise Estonia from the resources of the European Social Fund.

The impact of the creative economy on the creation of added value, and thus on the whole economy, is large. Many countries and cities invest in development of creative economy strategies and programmes, the wider objective of which is to create jobs and increase investments.

Rally Estonia to bring 6000 tourists and at least one million euros to South Estonia

The big international motor sports event Rally Estonia, taking place from 15-16 July on the roads of South Estonia, will bring to Estonia at least 70 foreign contestants from 13 different countries, accompanied by 6 000 foreign tourists.

Enterprise Estonia, partner and supporter of the rally, estimates that the international rally will attract a large number of tourists to the site, located several hundred kilometres from the capital.

90 apartment buildings have applied for renovation grant from KredEx

As of the end of April, KredEx has received 90 applications in total amount of nearly 1.9 million Euros. 77 positive decisions have been made in the amount of over 1.6 million Euros, of which a grant of 35% has been decided to issue to four apartment associations. Eleven buildings have received a decision of a 25% grant and the rest of decisions were made for issuing a grant of 15%. The first recipient of the grant of 35%, an apartment building in Elva, has finished work by now, and the grant payment has been made.

According to Mirja Adler, head of the Housing Division of KredEx, the activity of applicants has increased in spring, and especially the number of applicants for grants of 25% and 35%, which means that during winter, decisions of renovation project have been processed and documents gathered, and now it is possible to start the integrated renovation of buildings.

New loan opportunities open up for exporting companies

On government sitting, draft legislation was approved by which a loan measure “Subordinated loan programme” funded from structural funds shall be created for exporting companies.

The “Subordinated loan programme” is aimed at Estonian companies that export or have plans to export, who lack own funds or sufficient guarantee property to finance the project, or whose project is considered to be too risky by a financing institution.

“The purpose is to improve the availability of capital for companies. The measure of subordinated loan supports the growth and expansion of companies,” said Juhan Parts, Minister of Economic Affairs and Communications.

Estonian enterprises at industry fair in Hannover: from Smart Dust technology to wind energy

Enterprise Estonia took 13 Estonian enterprises - with a joint display for the entire country - to the world's largest technology and industry fair in Hannover, from 4-8 April 2011. Germany, being a historic trading partner of Estonia, is the fourth largest country of export for Estonia; enterprises wish to improve this position. Enterprises saw a market there primarily for innovative high-tech industrial products. Participation in the fair was funded from European Structural Fund resources.

The purpose of participating was introducing Estonia as an environment with plenty of possibilities for integrating industrial enterprises, technology and science, where enterprises, universities, research institutions, production and the IT sector work closely together, with this favourable business environment serving as their background.
